Swing & Skate, Ice Grooves and Free Skate Rentals at City Hall this Winter

Winter City Weekends are back for 2023, and you can find Ice Grooves, Swing & Skate and free skate rentals at City Hall on Friday, Saturday and Sunday through the month of January.

Ice Grooves
When
: Friday and Saturday, 6-9pm
At Ice Grooves at City Hall Rink, you can enjoy free skate rentals (while supplies last), live music from a DJ or entertainer, for three hours while you hit the ice! Warm up with a cup of hot cocoa from one of the local cafes, or bring a thermos full of hot cocoa from home to enjoy with the kids.

Swing & Skate
When
: Sunday, 1-4pm
Spend your Sunday afternoon learning a new skill, as you swing dance your way through the ice rink, and into city hall where you’ll find live music and the chance to learn a few new dance moves. The music from inside will be broadcasted out on to the rink, so you can choose from an afternoon of indoor dancing, or outdoor skating in downtown Edmonton.

Here’s what you should know before you go:

  • There are free ice skate rentals available, but if you have your own, we would suggest bringing them with you. There are usually limited sizes, and it can be tricky to get there early enough to snag a pair of free rentals.

  • Bring a cup of hot cocoa, and some blankets to sit on while you’re enjoying the winter family fun outdoors. If it gets too cold, the inside of City Hall is a great place to warm up!

  • So far, the weekend winter fun is scheduled through the month of January. You can find the scheduled entertainment on the website, here. Sunday, January 1, dance into the new year with The Trocadero Orchestra! And if you’d rather be outdoors, the music will be broadcast directly outside for the enjoyment of ice skaters on City Hall Plaza.

  • Sunday, January 8 will feature the Edmonton Swing Band

City Hall Rink is at 1 Sir Winston Churchill Square, Edmonton.
