There's one way to get into the water at Cold Lake that doesn't involve wading in. At Kinosoo Beach, in Cold Lake, there's a tower with a kids zipline, that will get the kids in the water in a splash. With so few weeks to enjoy of summer, it's worth the day trip to spend a day at the beach. The high temperatures of late summer afternoons make it even easier to cancel your plans and hop in the car to spend the day at the beach.

Kinosoo Beach Zipline at Cold Lake

There is no charge for the zipline, but there tends to be a bit of a line during peak hours. The water is shallow enough for older kids to touch the bottom mostly until the end of the Zipline, but for younger children, or children that aren't confident swimmers, we suggest popping a life jacket on them. It will make it easier to bring the Zipline in, and hand it off to the next kid in line for the fun.

The beach was busy, but there is plenty of room to distance, and even on a crowded hot and sunny day, there was plenty of space between us and others around us at the beach. Bring sand toys, a blanket, umbrella, towels, chairs and create your own space in the sand.

Speaking of sand, it was soft, dotted with pebbles and perfect for building sand castles. Soft enough to lay a blanket over and sun yourself while the kids play, for hours, but also a great texture for building sand castles when you wet it with buckets of water, or build near the lake (just watch for those small waves that pop up from time to time!)Close by, there's concession with ice cream, drinks, fries and snacks.

Getting to Kinosoo Beach at Cold Lake

It took us just over three hours to drive from our home in Edmonton, to Cold Lake. We made the trip a day trip there and back and the drive was quick. That's under our day trip threshold, but there are plenty of places to camp, or find a cheap. hotel, or a vacation rental.
